Here is a clear and concise description of what the problem is:
When trying to play a video file, locally stored on the Android device running Kore, via the "Local files" option, the video starts to stutter / freeze after about a minute and numerous "lost diff" messages are logged.
Playing exactly the same file via an SSH connection from the Kodi system to the local Android device, over the same network, does not experience any problems.
I have tested various different video files of different qualities and codecs, on two separate Kore / Kodi systems, and the same same thing happens.
Happy to test any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this is related but, running a logcat on the Android device while trying to play the file shows lots of errors relating to nanohttpd. The errors have existing open issues such as NanoHttpd/nanohttpd#564.
