AWS support is pretty basic at this point. Some enhancements that might be useful include:

Spot instances
Multi-region support (for Cassandra, etc.)
Fine-grained image selection (different images for compute, storage, etc.)

multi-region support for Cassandra would be high on the list, as that is a key feature of the Cassandra stack.
