Sounds like you have a model with the Samsung PM981 SSD. Unfortunately I don't know of any way to make it work reliably. Your best option is replacing it with any M.2 SATA or a supported M.2 NVMe drive.
I'm able to boot the initial USB and start the install to disk, but it crashes about 50% through the install.
Now what's strange is I was able to install just fine to an external USB drive using your EFI.
Anyone had a similar issue? Maybe a problem with the stock Dell drive?
