When using keybindings to double Esc:

bind '\e\e' ...

Only the Alt+Esc shortcut works.

im not sure what bind is for its not ghostty

What do you expect to work here? That looks right to me. Note that bind is a shell construct, not Ghostty.

If you are trying to say “Pressing alt+esc triggers double-escape”, that is a limitation of the key encoding used in terminal emulators. Applications that support the Kitty keyboard protocol (such as Fish since v4) will work fine though.
