Upgrade to Java 8

It is my opinion that the future of this project would be assured if we upgrade to Java 8 to use Lambdas and Streams. I recommend we start an engineering study to address all ramifications of such an upgrade.

We have enterprise customers that still use Java 1.5 and use this software as part of their workflow to achieve synergies.

I think the board haven't sanctioned such versions, they are planning to recommision some DEC Servers to be used by the development teams (mandatory) so the application will soon have to be downgraded to support Java 1.2.

In the meantime we should backport the java8 features we need through a jdk5 compatible library.

Can this be implemented then?
